I began my aviation career at an early age of 15 flying floats based in Tofino. I soon moved on to flying bush planes in South Africa and throughout the Okavango Delta in Botswana. By the time I was 25 I had flown a PBY from Victoria BC to Africa and extensively up and down the African Continent.
After 7 years in the bush I settled in to an airline position, initially with Air BC for 7 years and then on to flying worldwide in a variety of different aircraft for Air Canada over the next 21 years. Presently I fly the 787 based in Vancouver BC and for fun and relaxation I fly a Cessna 185 on floats.
Vice-President: Bill Gillies
My start in aviation began at the university skydiving club in Fredericton New Brunswick. That nurtured my love for aviation which I channelled into a commercial pilots licence. That has taken me all over the world and provided many great adventures. I have flown floats on the B.C. Coast, DC 3s in Arctic Canada, firebombed in WW2 torpedo bombers and flown a DC3 around the world for Expo 86 in Vancouver. Of course one of my aviation highlights was crewing on a Catalina on the BC Coast in 1985, in C-FJCV. I ended my professional career in 2020 flying 737- 800 including the 737 Max.
Secretary: Ian Scanlan
I have been a crew member aboard the Shady Lady for several years and reckon that it is always an amazing day whenever I get to be part of the team which keeps the airplane in flying condition. Days when flying happens are even more special, as the PBY has long been one of my favourite airplanes. I am from Victoria and have been a commercial pilot for the past 30 years. When I am not out flying for my day job, I can mostly be found farming in Metchosin.
